International Lake Photography Contest Draws Over 4,000 Visitors
Over four thousand visitors attended the photographic exhibition, during just four Sundays open to the public in the premises of the former library, on the old port, facing San Nicolò and the Venetian customs house. Ninety-nine works competed, with 33 participants.
Many Italians participated, coming from Veneto, Trentino, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Lombardy, and Piedmont. There were seven foreigners, predominantly Germans. “The contest“, states Angelo Azzali, the organizer, with satisfaction, “has taken on an international flair this year, and all of this truly honors us.
This means that we managed to arouse the interest of many non-professional photographers who are in love with the lake and its most beautiful views. Moreover, the massive presence of the audience reassures us and makes us eager to continue in the future with greater interest and passion.”
The Jury and the Awards
“The jury faced some difficulty in awarding the prizes and rankings,” explains Giorgio Degani, president of the Lazise free association of shopkeepers, “because the works presented were truly beautiful and taken with great skill. We had to, for justice and seriousness, highlight four photos of great interest and strong intensity.”
The following shots were highlighted: Waiting by Laura Recanatini, San Vito by Andrea Veronesi, Landscape by Laura Segna, and Medieval Reflections by Giuliana Parolini. The award ceremony took place in a very crowded hall, during which Giorgio Degani emphasized the value of the images, where the colors revealed characters, memories, arts, and professions of the lake area.
The first prize was awarded to Gaetano Berzacola for Winter Chill, a very beautiful shot, a bright, lively, and colorful image, according to the judging panel. In second place was The Fishermen by Giacomo Altinier, with a good composition that reflects the theme of the profession.
In third place was Sunset by Wolfang Wildner, for its excellent pictorial effect. In fourth place was Christmas Reflections by Alber Guenther, fifth was Canneto by Ennio Malfer, and finally, in sixth place, Portrait of a Painter by Renzo Quintarelli. All received praise from the municipal official present at the certificate delivery ceremony.
