Recently, significant updates have emerged regarding the alleged food poisoning case that affected approximately 120 individuals, including children and school staff, at several kindergartens in Desenzano. This incident dates back to last June and has raised questions about the management of the catering service provided by Dussmann.

Municipal Inquiry

City Councilor Andrea Spiller, a member of the Five Star Movement and L’Altra Desenzano, has submitted an inquiry to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and the measures the municipal administration intends to implement to prevent future issues. Following the investigations, the municipality has provided new information regarding the situation.

Lack of Clear Answers

Spiller emphasized the difficulty in understanding exactly what happened on June 14. “As of today, the only certainty we have is that we will never truly know what happened,” he stated. Samples of the suspected dishes were destroyed by the serving staff before they could be analyzed, violating established procedures. Consequently, Dussmann was fined 500 euros, a sum deemed inadequate given the scale of the issue affecting over 100 children.

Need for Corrective Actions

The lack of clarity regarding the causes of the poisoning concerns Councilor Spiller. “The truth may never be established,” he asserted, highlighting the urgent need to implement concrete actions to update and improve the specifications of the catering service. It is essential to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future and that any responsibilities are clearly identifiable.

Protocol Changes

The response received from the municipality indicates that changes to the existing protocol have been agreed upon to enhance food safety in schools. Spiller is now awaiting the formalization of these changes in the upcoming tender for the catering service, hoping for a more rigorous approach to managing food supplies in local educational institutions.
