Following the Norovirus alarm in Torri del Benaco, which caused gastroenteritis in over a thousand people, the waters of Lake Garda have been a cause for concern. Despite the bathing ban being lifted, residents and tourists continue to have doubts, amplified by the foreign press, particularly in Austria and Germany.
To reassure people about the quality of the water, Paolo Formaggioni, the mayor of Brenzone, made a symbolic gesture. During a press conference, he drank a glass of water taken from the lake, exclaiming “Cheers!” to demonstrate the cleanliness of the water. Pierlucio Ceresa, the secretary general of the Garda Community, praised the initiative, recalling the purification measures implemented in the 1970s and 1980s that have ensured the current quality of the water, describing it as a heritage to be preserved for the future.
