Italian Researchers at K2 Highlight Climate Impact for Mountain Tourism Conference

The most captivating part was on Saturday morning, when the Palacongressi, live, was connected with Italian researchers located in the “laboratory-observation pyramid” of the CNR on K2.

Giampietro Verza, Giorgio Vassena, and Massimo Bollasina explained to the audience – which also included many students – the nature of their research.

In truly extreme conditions, at an altitude of 5000 meters and above, with temperatures that do not exceed 6 degrees Celsius during the day, the scientists are trying to understand how the climate of the Himalayan area is changing.

These phenomena are far from being local, because, as the researchers explained, what happens on the rooftops of the world influences the entire Earth system.

Connection and related activity

The link with K2 was thus the “spectacular highlight”: for the rest, the International Mountain Tourism Fair, which concluded yesterday at the Palacongressi of Riva after three days of intense activity, hosted the entire diverse market of Italian mountain tourism engaged in promotion through public and private operators.

Among these are industry associations of hotels and accommodations, Comunità Montane, Apt, Pro Loco, local administrations, and clubs.

The BTM, organized by Assoturismo and Confesercenti, was inaugurated on Friday in the presence of Provincial Tourism Councilor Benedetti.

He emphasized, in particular, the need for all operators to “network” together, to improve the Trentino offering.

In turn, the Province will take care of updating the regulatory tools and qualifying economic support measures.

The BTM was also a congress debate (focusing on the theme “Tourism of the new millennium”) and a web of business: with the Workshop linking the offerings of the Italian tourism market to the demand from foreign markets.
