Italy Advances DOP Recognition for San Zeno Chestnut
The Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry Policies expressed a favorable opinion regarding the acceptance of the application for the recognition of the Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) «Il marrone di San Zeno». The process to obtain certification of origin for one of the most characteristic products of our mountains, the marrone, has thus been initiated. To complete the procedure and to incorporate observations and guidance from the production chain interested in the DOP, a public hearing has been scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the Palazzo Ca’ Montagna in San Zeno di Montagna.
Following the meeting and based on the observations and directions that will emerge during the debate, the minister may issue the decree to recognize the DOP, which will effectively trigger a promotional effort for the product and the areas where the marrone originates.
It is possible to obtain a copy of the proposed production regulations, detailing all the characteristics the marrone must possess to qualify as a San Zeno di Montagna DOP, at the Verona Chamber of Commerce (Agriculture Office).
