Italy’s D’Annunzio Airport Seeks Growth Amid Increased Passenger Traffic

Will a structure that is starting to gain momentum be allowed to fail?

In 2000, passengers at D’Annunzio airport totaled 164,804, a significant leap from the roughly 22,000 of 1999, positioning it among Italian airports just behind the major and traditional ones, but ahead of other older provincial airports such as Parma, Bolzano, Forlì, and Pescara.

Objectives and results of 2000

The declared goal for 2001 was to reach 300,000 passengers, including 100,000 on charter flights. International flights, with over 124,000 passengers, primarily filled the schedule, boosted by very attractive heavily discounted offers on flights to London, and charter flights also contributed significantly, accounting for 70,000 travelers. Verona’s Catullo Airport in 2000 recorded a +23% increase, surpassing two million transit passengers, ranking it tenth in the country.
