Judicial Corruption: Former Prosecutor of Garlasco Under Investigation
The Brescia Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation involving the former deputy prosecutor of Pavia, Mario Venditti, for corruption in judicial acts in relation to the case of the murder of Chiara Poggi, which occurred in Garlasco in 2007. According to the allegations, Venditti was allegedly influenced to dismiss the investigations into Andrea Sempio, who is currently the only suspect in the new line of inquiry. Investigations have revealed that between February and March 2017, there were promises of money in exchange for the request for dismissal, which was quickly accepted. The investigative operations have led to searches in various locations, including Pavia and Genoa, involving former members of the judicial police and relatives of Sempio. Key elements of the investigation include wiretaps that mention the need for untraceable “payments” and suspicious bank transactions linked to significant sums issued by Sempio’s aunts. Lawyer Antonio De Rensis, representing Alberto Stasi, who was convicted of the murder, has described the new allegations as “unheard of,” highlighting the complexity and seriousness of the current legal situation.
