A handwritten letter from King Charles III has arrived at the “Mojito” in San Felice, an Italian-British pub known for being the home of Italy’s first fan club for James Bond. Andrew James Merigo, the pub’s manager, received this heartfelt response to the Christmas and New Year wishes sent to the royal family. The tradition of correspondence with the British royals began in 2015, and the pub has also received letters from the late Queen Elizabeth. This time, King Charles wrote: “Your generous message has deeply touched me, and with this letter, I extend my warmest wishes to you for the New Year.”
Merigo, originally from Manchester and residing in Italy for 45 years, expressed great excitement over the sovereign’s autograph, emphasizing that it is special because it was personally signed by him. The bond between the Mojito and the monarchy has strengthened over time due to the shared passion for James Bond, but now Merigo is concerned about the future of the franchise following Amazon’s acquisition of the rights. Nevertheless, he remains determined to keep the tradition alive, ready to write to the American giant if necessary.
