Knowing the Prophets of Ecumenism Conference at Maguzzano Abbey

The conference “Knowing the Prophets of Ecumenism” will be held from October 6 to 7 at the Ecumenical and Interreligious Dialogue Center of the Abbey of Maguzzano. The main goal of this new gathering, organized in collaboration with the Monastic Community of Bose and which will see the participation of numerous representatives from various Churches, will be to become familiar with some particularly significant figures of the ecumenical movement, birthed by the Spirit within Christian Churches!

Objectives and Theme of the Conference

“We will remember – explain the organizers – these prophets also to gain new momentum in the ecumenical commitment and journey of the Churches after the signing of the Ecumenical Charter. The program is quite full, starting Saturday morning at 9 a.m., with the lecture by Pastore Paolo Ricca, who will present two prophets of the Reformation churches: Willem A. Visser’t Hooft of the Reformed Church and the first general secretary of the World Council of Churches; and Nathan Soderbiom, Archbishop of the Swedish Lutheran Church.

In the afternoon, beginning at 3:30 p.m., Msgr. Emilianos, Metropolitan of Silyuria, former delegate of Patriarch Orthodoxy Atenagora to the ecumenical council of churches, will outline the ecumenical activity of this distinguished witness. Dr. Graziella Merlatti will present a brief profile of Bruno Hussar, a Prophet of Dialogue.

Activities and Participation on Sunday

On Sunday, October 7 at 9:30 a.m., with an intervention by Professor Giuseppe Alberico, a profile of Pope John XXIII‘s ecumenical activity will be offered, and with the intervention of Professor Don Giovanni Cereti, the resonances between the ecumenical efforts of Don Giovanni Calabria and the new directions in the Second Vatican Council will be identified.

The conference will also extend for those interested into the afternoon of October 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Verona at the Mother House of the Don Calabria Institute, with a classical music concert and the Eucharist which will conclude the celebration for the 100th anniversary of the Founder’s priestly ordination.
