Lake Garda Boat Race Highlights with Verona Teams at Iseo Championship

From Lake Garda to Lake Sebino with the boat parade for the fourth test of the rowing championship of boat races from the Venetian style. The event is scheduled for this evening (Saturday) at night in Iseo, a port town at the heart of wealthy commercial traffic until 1900, on the southern shore of the lake of the same name, organized by the sports group «La Clusanina» with the sponsorship of the Municipality.

This is the only regatta out of the ten scheduled that is valid for the awarding of the lake flag, and it takes place outside of the Lake Garda waters. It is held annually, as many times as the modern editions of the rowing race, alternating with Clusone, another Iseo town.

Boats in the water starting from 9:30 p.m., but most attention is focused on the last of the four evening challenges, featuring the three big Verona boats at the top of the provisional standings: Ichtya from Peschiera and Garda, both with 89 points, and Bardolino with 86, along with the outsider Portesina from S. Felice del Benaco.

The races between boats and the protagonists of the competition

Will the rowers from Peschiera (Paolo Tacconi, Massimo Raimondi, Osvaldo and Stefano Mazzurega) be able to repeat the success achieved last Saturday in Gargnano? Or will we see the return of the magnificent four from Garda (Matteo Pincini, Michele Bertoncelli, Ferdinando Sala, and Alberto Malfer), who won the race held two weeks ago on their home waters?

And what about Bardolino? The two contenders might be challenged, rightly so, by the rowers in yellow and blue, who have long harbored plans for revenge. The quartet composed of Bruno Maffezzoli, Silvano Dall’Agnola, Mauro Faraoni, and Francesco Maffezzoli has intensified training recently and is looking to the Iseo event as an ideal stage for a high-profile return.

Will they manage? Certainly, there are the conditions for a high-level performance. Proceeding in order, tonight’s event, with the parade on land featuring the band and majorettes from Cariplo, will see in the first heat among Verona boats: Betty and Torricella of Cassone di Malcesine, Lacisium, and Benacense, the boat from Toscolano-Maderno.

In the second race, another three Lombard boats: Birba from Lazise, Preonda from Bardolino, and Adelaide from Garda, with the Sebina completing the lineup, racing on their home waters. A four-way challenge among Lombard boats in the third race: Clusanina, the Iseo boat with four lake flags behind it (from 1984 to 1986 and 1997), Villanella from Gargnano, Sirenetta from Gardone, and Serenissima from Salò.

The rowing tournament for the lake flag is organized by the Lega Bisse del Garda with sponsorship from the Comunità del Garda and the Sports Department of the Veneto Region and the Province of Brescia.
