Lake Garda Road Opening: Villanuova Interchange and Section Reopening
There is only one day left until the partial reopening of traffic on Lake Garda’s roads. Tomorrow, after a delay that lasted longer than expected but could have been much worse, the triple interchange of Villanuova on the bypass of State Road 45 bis will be opened to traffic, allowing drivers to avoid the Tormini intersection both towards Salò, Vobarno, and Desenzano. At 11 a.m. tomorrow, at the entrance of the Covolo mountain tunnel on the side facing Brescia, the inauguration ceremony of the new section will take place, a project costing 170 billion lire that will improve road connections both towards the lake and towards Valsabbia.
After the ceremony, a reception will be held in the municipal council chamber of Villanuova. Attending will be the President of the Province, Alberto Cavalli, and the Provincial Councillor Mauro Parolini, along with other local administrators and, of course, the managers of ANAS, the agency responsible for managing the project. Simultaneously, the section from Gavardo to Villanuova, closed for months to allow construction work to proceed—particularly in the archaeological zone of Monte Covolo where work had been halted during the excavation season—will also reopen.
Preparations and final works
Yesterday confirmed that tomorrow’s opening will proceed as planned without any surprises. In recent days, through overtime work, the progress schedule was recovered, which had been threatened by the strike of freight transporters that blocked the shipment of necessary components to complete the roadworks. As stated by Councillor Parolini, this achievement was also possible thanks to pressure exerted on ANAS by provincial and local authorities.
If it depended solely on the road agency, the opening tomorrow probably would not have happened and would have been postponed until next year. It is known that in the near future, work will be needed to complete the artificial tunnel near Monte Covolo in a section where it is currently passable only through a narrow passage. The Province pressed for these works to be carried out at a later stage, and in the meantime, with the tourist season already underway, the road is now open.
