Lake Garda Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Hoteliers and Shopkeepers
They pose as carabinieri when making phone contacts with hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs around Lake Garda’s mid and upper areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
They are not law enforcement officials, but scammers who, each time, claim to be part of the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.
Beware of scams and how to respond
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who, after taking the money, disappear.
