Lake Garda Scammers Pose as Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate carabinieri when telephoning hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs around Lake Garda’s mid and upper regions, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not actual military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or local traffic wardens.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, exercise caution and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after receiving the money, disappear.
