Lake Garda Sees Tourism Boom as New Year’s Trends Emerge

New Year’s on Lake Garda remains a leading winter tourism draw, with visitor numbers rising sharply from December 26 and accommodation occupancy exceeding 85% over the New Year’s long weekend. Local authorities have prepared a programme of markets, cultural events and evening entertainment, and most visitors are Italian or from Northern Europe.

Highlight events include a midnight fireworks display over the gulf in Salò and the 20th “Tuffo di Capodanno” in Toscolano Maderno, where hundreds are expected to enter the lake at 10:00 on January 1. Hotels with wellness facilities and indoor pools report the highest bookings, nightlife is supported by concerts and club events, and a study by the Università del Sacro Cuore in Brescia indicates growing interest among summer visitors to return in winter for nature, culture, sport and food-and-wine offerings.
