Lake Garda’s Heritage Explored in New Historical-Artistic Guide by Vedovelli

The beauties of the entire Lake Garda collected and narrated in a historical-artistic guide, also including a road map. Just a few days ago, in the courtyard of the Scaliger Castle, the newest “Historical-Artistic Guide. Lake Garda” was presented, authored by Giorgio Vedovelli, president of the Museo del Castello and one of the founders of the Centro studi per il territorio Benacense.

Comprising 200 pages and rich in numerous photographs, the volume “aims to describe, with the literary technique of “strangening”” – as explained by Dr. Maurizio Miele, head of Cierre Edizioni – all the towns around Lake Garda, regardless of their belonging to the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Lombardy. Vedovelli, without taking anything for granted, accurately describes the historic-cultural beauties, viewing them through the eyes of someone unfamiliar with them who remains impressed and astonished when discovering them.

Images and organization of the event

As a backdrop to the evening, photographs of the territory and the Benacense villages curated by the Gruppo Fotografico Lo Scatto di Garda, the same group responsible, thanks to Ivano Maffezzoli and artistic direction by Ivano Bolondi, for organizing the L’Estate Fotografica di Torri, a highly successful and well-received event.

“With this book,” explained Giorgio Vedovelli, “we talk about all the towns of Garda, enhancing their artistic and cultural heritage.” Starting from Peschiera and heading north to Riva del Garda, then returning to Peschiera through the knowledge of the towns on the Brescian shore, Vedovelli wanted to tell “centuries of history through churches, villas, and castles”, the three essential and most representative elements for each town in the Garda and Baldassare area.

Collaborations and local engagement

“Produced in collaboration with the Biblioteca di Torri,” explained the culture councilor Daniela Peroni, “the volume complements, and with a truly evocative and comprehensive approach, the perhaps too fragmented publications related to the towns of Garda and its hinterlands. It is a significant book for all Gardesans.”

Among the audience was also the president of Ugav, the Unione Gardesana Albergatori of Verona, Dr. Giuseppe Lorenzini, “fully involved” in the history of Lake Garda as the owner of the Gardesana hotel, “once the seat of the ‘Consiglio della Gardesana dell’Acqua’,” the union of ten municipalities which, during the time of the Serene Republic, governed the coastal centers, as explained by the author of the volume, Giorgio Vedovelli.
