Lakeside Protest Over Loud Concerts Sparks Official Reactions
The bad weather, which until now had forced them to continuous postponements, had kept them safe from protests, but since Saturday evening, when the concert held on the Porfina beach took place, members of the Gruppo Iniziative Giovani have become the target of the ire of numerous hoteliers and tourists along the lakeside, as the music played until 1:30 a.m. loudly from the amplifiers placed in the Pini bar area. The result: multiple calls to the carabinieri and a protest letter to the mayor of Riva, signed by an hotel owner.
Protests and Official Reactions
Ironically, one of the founders of the organizing group of the contested concert is none other than Massimo Malossini, son of the Primo Cittadino, along with the two city councilors Marco Tanas and Salvador Valandro. This fact is also known to Achille Lasagna, owner of the Hotel Venezia, who has become the de facto spokesperson for the protests from tourists and operators.
«I must inform you – Lasagna wrote to Mayor Malossini in a letter sent already on Sunday morning – that last night (Saturday for those reading; ed.) the “youth gathering moment” at the Spiaggia dei Pini, with the concert, caused significant disturbance due to the loud amplification and the music genre itself. I am writing this support of my guests in the hotel and other residents in the area.»
It was an infernal racket – Lasagna confirmed when contacted personally – which lasted until late at night: amplifiers at maximum volume and indescribable noise. I am not saying concerts cannot be held, but I believe there are more suitable locations for such events, certainly not the lakeside, which remains Riva’s only oasis of peace.
In this area, I think concerts of a completely different musical genre are more appropriate, especially without amplifiers. Those who love rock or techno can listen to them, but save the eardrums of those who enjoy other genres or perhaps prefer to sleep».
