Landslide Blocks Road Near Limone, Sparks Emergency Response
A large landslide fell last night around 10:30 PM on the Statale Gardesana, near a tunnel just before the town of Limone, blocking the road.
Immediately, patrols from the Polizia Stradale, the Carabinieri, the Vigili del Fuoco of Salò, and ambulances dispatched by the 118 emergency service responded, fearing that the mass detached from the mountain might have overwhelmed passing vehicles.
The size of the landslide, over one hundred meters, then required the deployment of additional units from the Vigili del Fuoco of Brescia and Riva del Garda, as well as personnel from Anas.
Safety measures and detours
During the night, the Polstrada set up a detour to Salo to reach Trentino via Lake Idro and Lake Ledro.
Meanwhile, in Pisogne, only eight families remain under an evacuation order due to the danger of the impending landslide threatening the town; all other displaced residents have been able to return to their homes.
Weather conditions and controversies
The weather alert seems to be slowly diminishing in the province, thanks to better atmospheric conditions experienced yesterday.
A previous eight-hour truce just a few days ago had prevented the situation from worsening on Sebino and Oglio rivers.
However, the wave of controversy is rising once again on Lake Garda regarding the opening of the galleria that channels water from the Adige: problems are arising due to flooding in Sirmione and Desenzano.
Closed due to landslides are the Triumplina in Pezzaze and the Statale del Caffaro at Coste di Sant’Eusebio.
