Lazise Breaks Ground on New Multipurpose Gymnasium and Bocce Court
The construction site for the multifunctional gymnasium in the Casara area has begun, adjacent to the elementary and middle school complex. The contract for the new building was awarded to Somi spa of Bonferraro di Sorgà, a company that has been operating in the Lacisiese territory for several years, carrying out numerous public works. The project is expected to be completed approximately by September 2002, according to the architect Roberto Grapulin from Verona, who is the designer.
Project and Sections
Two sections make up the project drafted by Grapulin, in close collaboration with surveyor Gaetano Rossignoli. The first phase of construction involves the realization of the actual multifunctional gymnasium, its amenities, and the connection to the existing school structure. The second phase consists of a multipurpose slab, which, in more understandable terms, will serve as an indoor bocce court.
The Bocce Court and Sports Activity
The Olimpia Lazise bowling club’s section is very active and has been achieving excellent positions at the provincial and national levels for years. Therefore, the bocce court is a highly anticipated and well-appreciated project.
The first part of the facility, currently under construction, will include a field equipped for volleyball and basketball. In the underground area, there will be locker rooms for athletes and referees, an infirmary, and a large multifunctional room.
On the first floor, there will be a spacious area for the audience, a bar zone, and restroom and utility areas. Both the sections dedicated to volleyball and basketball, as well as the bocce area, will be completed with a large tiered-stand for spectators.
According to the designer, more than 500 seats are planned for each of the two spaces. The load-bearing structure of the new public work will be entirely in reinforced concrete, resting on earthquake-resistant pillars. The ceiling will be made entirely of wood, with laminated timber beams.
This will be a lightweight, durable, and architecturally pleasing and modern structure. The external roof covering will be made of aluminum sheet. In this case too, durable, lightweight, and weather-resistant materials will be used.
The expenditure planned by the Lazise City Administration for the first phase is estimated at two billion three hundred eighty-five million lire. The intervention is financed through a long-term, multi-year loan provided by the Credito Sportivo di Roma.
«To allow access, and therefore the use, of the new multifunctional gymnasium also to middle and elementary school students,» explains architect Roberto Grapulin, «we had to intervene with an underground connection, which will enable students to access the gym directly from the school building.» This was a specific requirement of the school to maintain a «safe transfer» for students moving from one building to another.
