Lazise Heritage Revealed: New Work by Francesco Fontana to be Published

A proposal is currently underway for the reservation of an unpublished work by Francesco Fontana the Pharmacist, who lived in Lazise in the 19th century and dedicated much of his life to collecting fragments of local history and culture.

The initiative is the work of the friends of the «Francesco Fontana» Cultural Association, which for years has sought to valorize Lazise, its territory, and its most intimate roots.

Content of the work and technical details

The work gathers unpublished writings that Fontana dedicated throughout his life to the territory of Lazise, Colà, and Pacengo.

The volume consists of six chapters and an appendix: general discourse on the Municipality of Lazise; Lazise Castle; the old parish church of Lazise; Gardesana of the water; fishing grounds of Lazise; a little chronicle (unpublished memories belonging to the Municipality of Lazise).

Finally, the appendix concerns many plants collected by the author along the shores of Lake Garda.

Formats and presentation of the volume

The text, which aims for 250 pages, is accompanied by 80 black-and-white and color images illustrating the places and monuments discussed by the author.

The volume will be presented in September during the sixth exhibition of Garda and Verona publishing.

Price and reservation methods

The price is 50,000 lire, reduced to 30,000 lire for those who reserve it using the specific «coupon» provided by the «Francesco Fontana» Association.

It will be possible to reserve the work at the Association’s headquarters in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and at «Il Punto di Vista» in Lazise, Franco Parrucchiere in Colà, and the tobacco shop in Pacengo.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of the work will be donated to the restoration of the Ancient Church of Saints Fermo and Rustico.
