Lazise Sees 50 Pairs of Terns Choose Le Greghe for First-Time Breeding in 2026
In Lazise, 50 pairs of Delichon urbicum have chosen Le Greghe for nesting for the first time in spring 2026. The mud-and-saliva nests under the eaves are currently in active incubation, with hatching expected in June 2026, according to monitoring by the local structure; the colonization is documented as Colony 2026 and involves individuals returning from African migration without any artificial intervention.
The site choice is attributed to abundant insects, favorable architectural features, and minimal disturbance. Le Greghe / Ristoclassique has announced protection measures for the colony (no chemical treatments and ongoing monitoring), a territory-based birdwatching program, and a public evening on Wednesday 10 June 2026 at 7:00 PM led by Alessandro Sartori. The house martin is protected under Italian law 157/1992, and nests cannot be removed during the breeding season.
