A lightning strike hit the peaks of Monte Baldo on Sunday afternoon, June 2, 2024, near Cima Costabella, close to the Fiori Del Baldo refuge and the Prada Costabella cable car. The event was captured by the security cameras of the Chierego refuge, located a few hundred meters away. The lightning struck around 2:30 PM, causing an internet outage at the Fiori Del Baldo refuge but without causing any injuries or significant damage.
The disruptions were limited: the Prada chairlift resumed regular service after the storm, and the Chierego refuge experienced only a one-hour power outage. The Le Cime di Novezza bar also suffered minor damages with two refrigerators out of order. Maurizio Marogna, a mountain expert, commented that these are normal phenomena for summer storms and fortunately there were no significant damages.
