Limone Ferry Chaos Strains Resources, Skews Tourism Recovery

After a fearsome pre-Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday at the ferry dock for Limone passed in the sign of a painful normality.

The wait ranges from one and a half to three hours. However, none of the motorists in line have the right to complain, as all of them, one after the other, are thoroughly explained by the staff about what awaits them.

The requirement to constantly staff two municipal police officers throughout the day, diverting them from other equally necessary duties (the personnel is critically short), is considered too burdensome by the mayor, who is contemplating re-establishing contact with Limone to seek some support.

Traffic management and impact on the territory

Furthermore, Limone is also suffering from the situation. Along the lakeside road near the dock, about fifty cars can park. Once the limit is reached, the officer on duty at the lakeside communicates this to the colleague stationed at the junction with the state road, who then prevents any additional vehicles from entering.

Motorists can either continue on or enter the large paid parking lot adjacent to the road, waiting for the situation to clear.

Many prefer to go to Maderno to take the ferry to Torri and thus access the Eastern coast. Limone’s hotels report a weekend decline of around 30%, due to the disappearance of passing tourists.
