Limone Mayor Calls for Urgent Resolution of Western Route Landslide Crisis

“One thing is certain: the problem of the Western route must be solved once and for all”. This is what Giovan Battista Martinelli, mayor of Limone, states, the town that until the day before yesterday was isolated to the south and since yesterday is isolated to the north, always due to landslides falling onto the highway. The disruption towards Riva is even more serious: the economy of the center, linked to dozens of hotels of every category, depends on contacts with the north.

The landslide of February ’99 had caused concern among operators and administrators. This event occurred during a low season period. “Fortunately, the ferry docks for Navigarda are operational in Riva and Limone. From 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., there is a ferry every half hour: for now, this works fine.”

Perspectives and Solutions

And what about the prospect of indefinite closure, lasting as long as necessary for the construction of the tunnel up to Sperone? “Let’s discuss it. Right now, until after Epiphany, there is nothing to do.” The rock climbers have been subjected in recent weeks to a real tour de force throughout Trentino.

Engineer Bortolotti rightly requested that these festive days be allowed to pass. Then we will sit around a table, reflect comprehensively, seek solutions, and study possible alternatives.

We can no longer continue like this, and past relations with Trento support optimism.
