On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, Lonato del Garda is preparing to host a literary event titled “Liberated Italy”. Promoted by the local Pro Loco in collaboration with journalist Giorgio Mora, this initiative aims to celebrate historical memory and the value of freedom through a series of meetings dedicated to essays, historical novels, and testimonies related to the Resistance.

The event seeks to stimulate deep reflection on events that have marked Italian history, offering the public the opportunity to listen to stories from authors and scholars. The meetings will be moderated by Giorgio Mora, who will lead the conversations with the invited guests.

Program of the Meetings

  • April 5 at 3 PM – Lonato del Garda Station: Silvia Pinelli will present the book “A Story Almost Just Mine,” written by journalist Piero Scaramucci together with his mother Licia. The narrative is dedicated to the figure of his father Giuseppe Pino Pinelli, a partisan and anarchist.

  • April 16 at 8:30 PM – Centro Sociale Aurora, via Girelli 8: Sergio Desiderati will discuss his book “The Resistance Beyond the Mountains,” which tells the story of his father Antonio through the diary of his imprisonment in a concentration camp from September 8, 1943. This account highlights the resistance of the Italian Military Interned against the Salò Republic and Nazism.

  • April 23 at 8:30 PM – Centro Sociale Aurora, via Girelli 8: Tita Secchi will be recounted by his namesake grandson in the book “The North Wall.” This work collects writings and photographs of the hero of the Brescia Resistance, who was captured by fascists and Nazis and executed along with seven other partisans of the Fiamme Verdi on September 16, 1944.

  • May 3 at 4 PM – Lonato del Garda Station: Fabio Franci will present the touching story of Don Giovanni Fornasini, a priest murdered in Marzabotto by Nazis and fascists in the book “The Angel on a Bicycle.”

All events are free of charge until seats are filled. For more information regarding the program or any additional details, you can contact the Pro Loco of Lonato del Garda at the email address prolocolonato@libero.it or by phone at 351/3053670.
