Lombardy’s 2024 Forest Report highlights that the region has 618,000 hectares of woodland, representing 26% of its territory, with forests absorbing approximately 3.4 million tons of CO₂ annually and storing 128.8 million tons of carbon. The report also notes an annual increase in timber volume of 2.9 million cubic meters, with 81% of forested areas located in mountainous regions; forest management covers 26% of the regional woodland.
The report identifies challenges such as the spread of the bark beetle, affecting over a third of affected areas in Valle Camonica, and details the forestry sector: around 320 companies employing over 1,900 people, with 28 forest consortia managing 102,000 hectares. Funding for prevention, restoration, and development initiatives totals €29 million in 2025, including investments in infrastructure, mechanization, forest planning, and support to silviculture projects.
