Lombardy Mountain Rescue Responds to 1,490 Incidents in 2025
Lombard Alpine Rescue reports a significant increase in rescue operations in 2025, with 1,490 interventions compared to 1,259 in 2024. The teams assisted 1,986 individuals, with 99 fatalities across mountain, canyoning, cave, and medical incidents, and 127 searches for missing persons. The overall trend shows a rise from 1,314 interventions in 2022 and 1,390 in 2023.
The Lombard Alpine Rescue, coordinated with AREU, helicopter services, and 112 call centers, deployed 8,930 rescuers over nearly 29,924 hours across 5,471 days. Most incidents involved hiking and mountain sports, caused by delays, disorientation, or inadequate preparation and equipment. The IX Speleological Delegation conducted three specialized interventions, with a total of 310 hours. A national awareness campaign, “SICURI in MONTAGNA d’inverno,” is scheduled for January 18.
