Lombardy Passes Boat Sanitation Law Affecting Trento and Veneto
The regional council approved a law on February 24th requiring boat sanitization and anti-fouling treatments for vessels arriving from other basins. The legislation, promoted by Lega’s Floriano Massardi, aims to prevent the spread of invasive alien species through mandatory hull and engine cleaning, with specific procedures and certification.
Enforced from January 1, 2027, the law mandates waterless hydro-cleaning without chemicals, prohibits residual water discharge into lakes, and sets certification fees based on boat size—ranging from €20 to €70. The Autonomous Province of Trento has already agreed, with Veneto expected to finalize approval soon; a public information campaign will precede enforcement.
