The Lombardy Region Council has decided to postpone by one year the introduction of driving restrictions for Euro 5 diesel vehicles, moving the effective date from October 1, 2025, to October 1, 2026. The proposal, presented by the Councillor for Environment and Climate, Giorgio Maione, and supported by the Councillor for Agriculture, Alessandro Beduschi, aims to avoid the immediate ban on over 400,000 vehicles, thus allowing for a more balanced transition towards stricter environmental regulations in line with national provisions.
The measure will affect municipalities with a population exceeding 100,000 residents, including Milan, Brescia, Monza, and Bergamo. Furthermore, the Lombardy Region confirms the activation of the Move-In service, which allows vehicles subject to restrictions to circulate freely within a monitored annual mileage limit. Finally, over 119 million euros have been allocated in the past five years to incentivize the renewal of the vehicle fleet and improve air quality without penalizing citizens and businesses.
