Lombardy Region Invests in Innovation and Territorial Monitoring to Strengthen Risk Management

Lombardy Region has allocated €3.5 million to finance innovative territorial monitoring and emergency-management projects in vulnerable areas, to be implemented with local public administrations; the measure was approved by the regional council on the proposal of University, Research and Innovation councillor Alessandro Fermi together with Territorial councillor Gianluca Comazzi and Security councillor Romano La Russa. An additional €2 million from Fondazione Cariplo will fund a separate call aimed at Lombardy SMEs, scheduled for early 2026.

The agreement promotes advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to support decision-making in the prevention and management of hydrogeological risk, wildfires and strong winds. Projects must adopt a “Living Lab” approach, involving local communities and public and private actors in real contexts, and aim to integrate solutions with public administrations’ information systems for more effective monitoring and faster emergency response.
