Lombardy Solar Installations Drop to 692 MW in 2025 from 959 MW in 2024

Lombardy’s photovoltaic installations declined in 2025, with new capacity dropping to 692 MW from 959 MW in 2024. Regional representatives from Legambiente emphasize the need to maintain installation momentum and identify suitable areas to reach at least 16 GW by 2030, following delays due to legal disputes.

The region leads Italy in electricity generation and consumption, producing over 51 TWh in 2024 against a demand of approximately 65 TWh. Projections indicate consumption could rise to nearly 72 TWh by 2030, with renewable energy expected to account for only 23.2 TWh—mainly from solar, increasing from 4 TWh in 2024 to 10.5 TWh in 2030—while natural gas remains a significant energy source.
