Lonato del Garda Honored by Legambiente for Achieving Over 80% Recycling Rate in 2024

Lonato del Garda has received the “Comune Riciclone” (Recycling Municipality) award from Legambiente Lombardia for achieving over 80% waste separation in 2024. The recognition was announced during the annual “Comuni Ricicloni” event on January 22, 2026, highlighting the municipality’s effective waste management efforts.

The success stems from collaboration among local authorities, Garda Uno (the waste management company), and residents. The municipality operates two recycling centers and has expanded collection points with new eco-islands and additional containers funded by PNRR. Initiatives like the “Restart” food surplus project have recovered over 6,200 kg of edible food for vulnerable populations, further supporting sustainable waste practices. Local officials emphasized ongoing efforts in education, infrastructure, and community engagement to maintain progress.
