The Prefect of Brescia, Andrea Polichetti, recently presented the technical assessments regarding the project for the collection and treatment of wastewater in Lonato del Garda, which has been approved by the Steering Committee at the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. This new treatment facility aims to ensure better water quality in the lake, with an intervention plan currently being defined to be submitted to the MASE. The choice of Lonato was favored over the proposed solution for Peschiera, which was deemed unfeasible due to issues related to the expansion of the existing wastewater treatment plant.
Furthermore, the facility will utilize the Chiese River to dilute discharges without compromising the surrounding environment and will allow for the reuse of treated water in agriculture. The decommissioning of the old sublacual pipeline from the 1980s is necessary due to its deterioration. The project also includes compensatory measures for the Municipality of Lonato, which will benefit from the redevelopment of areas occupied by the current treatment plants. Alternative routes for laying the collector are being studied to minimize disruptions during construction and expedite the establishment of the facility in the Esenta district, where advanced technologies will be employed to minimize odors and noise.
