Lonato Hosts Nepal Photo Exhibition Exploring Contemporary Nepal
The Nepalese photography exhibition “NEPAL TODAY | In the Forest, in the Villages” — curated by Filippo Maggia — opens at the Sala del Capitano della Rocca di Lonato on June 11 and runs until August 30, 2026, open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Selected by Italy’s Ministry of Culture under the STRATEGIA FOTOGRAFIA 2025 programme, the show gathers more than 50 photographs by Uma Bista, Sagar Chhetri and Kishor Sharma. Admission is a single €6 ticket that covers access to the entire monument complex.
The project presents contemporary Nepal as a visual and social laboratory. The three series on display—Our Songs from the Forest (Bista), Eclipse (Chhetri) and Living in the Mist (Sharma)—explore gender dynamics, political tensions and nomadic community life through a dialogue between documentary practice and visual interpretation. Developed with the authors in Kathmandu, it involves training partners such as Pathshala Institute in Dhaka, and is accompanied by a catalog published by Silvana Editoriale; the venue is supported by Fondazione Ugo Da Como.
