Lonato Road Closures for Giro d’Italia Time Trial on June 3rd
On Sunday, June 3rd, some of the most important roads in Lonato will be closed to traffic from the early morning hours to accommodate the passage of the pink caravan of the 84th Giro d’Italia. This stage is special because it is an individual time trial, providing an opportunity to particularly observe the favorites among the many cyclists participating in the race. There is, of course, great satisfaction from Sports Councilor Alessandra Fontana regarding this event, which will bring Lonato into the spotlight on Rai television.
The route and the start of the time trial
The race will reach Lonato via Centenaro and Castel Venzago, then continue with the challenging ascent of Tiracollo, along the entire Via Marziale Cerutti, up to the intersection with the railway station. The time trial, which is expected to be particularly selective and capable of overturning the final standings, will pass through the town towards the former Busi steelworks, then divert along Via Salvo D’Acquisto, passing in front of the Carabinieri barracks.
A final parade will take place along Viale Roma and Corso Garibaldi, where, at Piazza Savoldi, the finish line with intermediate timing detection will be set up. The cyclists will then leave the center of Lonato to head towards Barzuzzi and Padenghe. The final arrival will be in Salò after 55 kilometers and 500 meters.
Related events and celebrations
«We thought of further coloring the day with sport,” explains Councilor Alessandra Fontana, “by supporting the Feralpi cycling gathering scheduled for the morning, between 8:15 and 10:15, before the start of the Giro d’Italia from Sirmione, planned for 10:50.
The awards for the top twenty cycling clubs participating in the event will be held at the end of the race at the municipal sports hall on Via Reggia Antica.» The Feralpi-sponsored cycle rally will only partly use the route of the stage and has, of course, been authorized.
Expect a significant crowd at the top of Tiracollo. The “pink” event, which will draw thousands of people, will require the commitment of all the available law enforcement agencies on the territory for the entire day (road closures from 6:00 to 20:00, with transit likely closing at around 8:00).
