Lonato Vintage Postcards Exhibition Showcases a Century of Change
“Greetings and kisses from Lonato.” This is the title of the special exhibition of vintage postcards organized by the Comune di Lonato, opening tomorrow, April 14th, on the eve of Easter. All the materials on display, about 150 images, belong to Gualtiero Bersanini, a collector who for over ten years has been scouring flea markets in the Lower Garda area looking for the most original photographic material that witnesses the major transformations of the town. The exhibition, which will be inaugurated at 6 p.m. in the Celesti hall of the municipality, will remain open to the public until April 22nd and can be visited in the morning, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and in the afternoon, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. “The postcards I present,” explains Bersanini, are just over half of my collection. They encompass the entire 20th century, highlighting the most picturesque and yet the most well-known places of the Lonato territory.
Description of the postcards
“From a snow-covered viale Roma in 1907 to a corso Garibaldi from the 1950s, from the taverns of via Repubblica to the Rocca before restoration works, from the Maguzzano Abbey to the Piazza del Municipio before the Venetian column was moved to its current location.” The exhibition is accompanied by drawings, sketches, and writings by the local artist Eugenio Rocco. In short, for the curious, a plunge into the past, but also an opportunity to learn about the more recent history of Lonato. This initiative, together with the tasting of typical Brescia wines, will be at the heart of the “Mercantico” market, scheduled for Sunday, April 15th, Easter day.
