Lonato’s Mercantico Event Features History Exhibits, New Room Openings
It will be a truly special «Mercantico» scheduled for tomorrow, March 18, in the historic center of Lonato. First of all, the exhibition «Reconsidering the Past» will open in the Celesti room of the Palazzo Comunale, organized by the assessorato alla Cultura.
This is a broad collection of posters, newspaper articles, and various documents related to the period from 1934 to 1946 curated by the Gardesan researcher Luciano Galante. It will be accessible in the morning from 10 am to 12 pm and in the afternoon from 3 pm to 6 pm. The exhibition will remain open to the public until March 24, from Monday to Saturday.
Related events and new room openings
But that’s not all. The «Mercantico» event coincides with the Spring Day in support of Fai (Fondo per l’ambiente italiano): a new room in the Casa del Podestà of the Ugo da Como Foundation will also be open to visitors.
This is the «Sala Bresciana», which can be visited for free from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Throughout Sunday, visitors will also have the opportunity to explore Lonato’s monuments with the help of the archaeological naturalistic association «La Polada».
In the historic center, among over a hundred stalls selling antiques and vintage items, visitors will also have the chance to taste excellent Brescia wines. Naturally, the «Mercantico» dedicated to artists in front of the Basilica of San Giovanni and the exhibition dedicated to rural life in the former prison on via Repubblica, curated by Claudio Bersan, will not be missing.
