Lonato’s Mercantico Launches Art Course with Exhibitions and Guided Tours
With the edition of Sunday, February 18, the «Mercantico» in Lonato will inaugurate the «art course» as described by the city’s Chamber of Commerce councilor Paolo Marcoli.
Via Tarello, the central street connecting Corso Garibaldi with Piazza Martiri della Libertà, will be closed to traffic from 10 am to 6 pm to host works by various artists, painters, and sculptors.
“This is just the beginning of a project,” comments Marcoli, “but it will have continuity, emphasizing a particular focus on art.”
Exhibitions and Guided Tours
The antique, vintage, and diverse collectibles fair will also offer the opportunity to enter the Civic Tower in Lonato for about fifty meters.
All this will be made possible by volunteers from the Associazione Storico-Archeologica La Polada, who will act as guides up to the bell chamber.
Visits to other important monuments in Lonato (Basilica, Church of Madonna del Corlo, etc.) will also be available.
Throughout the day, the exhibition “Things of the Past” will be open at the former district prison on Via Repubblica, curated by Claudio Bersan and Giovanni Casella, two collectors of rural history from the 1950s-60s.
Entry is free.
Fritters and Tradition During Carnival
Finally, given the timing of the event, coinciding with Carnival, there will be a free tasting of fritters and lettuce in the historic city center.
The «Mercantico» is organized by the Municipal Office of Commerce and a dedicated volunteer committee.
