Camillo Carlucci, an 80-year-old retired psychiatrist, is preparing to embark on an extraordinary swimming challenge across Lake Garda to celebrate his birthday. The start of this endeavor is set for tomorrow, July 7, at 11:30 AM, from the Campagnola area, where Carlucci will swim freestyle and backstroke for seven consecutive days. The route covers a total of approximately 140 kilometers, with stops including Malcesine and the Sabbioni beach in Riva del Garda. The challenge will culminate on Sunday, July 13, at the old port of Malcesine.
This new venture follows his 2021 achievement, when Carlucci completed a circumnavigation of Lake Garda in 13 days after recovering from a hospitalization due to Covid-19. With this initiative, the octogenarian aims to demonstrate that age knows no bounds and to encourage older individuals to stay active and engaged in sports. In addition to being a personal challenge, the event will also serve a charitable purpose: raising funds for the restoration of the historic Goletta boat of the Fraglia Vela di Desenzano, which will be used to welcome schoolchildren and individuals with disabilities during nautical activities.
