Malcesine Choirs Perform Together in Final Concert Under Miaroma

The friendship between the “Le Voci di Malcesine” choir and the renowned “I Crodaioli” choir of Arzignano (Vicenza) is renewed this year as well. On Thursday, the choral concert will be held at the Teatro Lacaor in Malcesine at 9 PM, marking, in a sense, the most important event in the calendar of activities for Le Voci di Malcesine. The Crodaioli, directed by Maestro Bepi De Marzi, and the Finnish choir “Con Amore”, conducted by Maestro Heikki Vaananen, will perform together.

The evening, titled “Before Summer Ends: Choirs in the Castle”, will be divided into two parts, during which popular and original songs, both Italian and foreign, will be performed. The exceptional presence of the Crodaioli choir is undoubtedly a source of pride for the Associazione Corale Cima Valdritta, the organizer along with the local Istituzione Malcesine, in support of this musical event.

Furthermore, thanks to the participation of friends from Finland, the evening promises an international flair. As enthusiasts of folk singing know well, the Coro dei Crodaioli is famous worldwide, especially for its unique policy of performing only songs written by its director: this very distinctive choice has made the choir one of a kind, often requested for performances and concerts both in Italy and abroad.

The Performances and Compositions

During the Malcesine event, the Crodaioli will present six songs, some of which are among the latest compositions by the Vicenza-based maestro. Following this, the Finnish choir “Con Amore” will perform pieces from the traditional Finnish repertoire and works by De Marzi, as a small tribute to the maestro and his choir. Finally, it will be the host choir’s turn.

The program concludes with a performance of the unified choir singing “Signore delle Cime”, perhaps the most famous composition by the Vicenza maestro. This marks the third consecutive year that the bond between the three choirs has been reaffirmed in Malcesine through a concert.

The roots of this collaboration date back to 1997, when a singer from Le Voci di Malcesine coincidentally met Maestro De Marzi, one of the most renowned figures in the Italian choral scene. From this encounter and the contact with the Finnish choir, a lasting friendship blossomed. The Finnish choir, “Con Amore”, even had the privilege and pleasure of hosting the Crodaioli last year in Finland during a tour that included Helsinki and other major Finnish locations. The Finnish choir quickly appreciated the originality of De Marzi’s compositions, incorporating many into their repertoire.

The Cultural Significance and Future

What is anticipated for Thursday evening is also a joyful occasion to reconnect with friends from afar in the magical atmosphere of choral singing. Furthermore, this event holds particular significance for Le Voci di Malcesine. It will be the last concert conducted by the current director Enrico Miaroma.

After many years of dedicated activity, filled with effort and minor and major satisfactions, Maestro Enrico Miaroma is stepping down from his role with Le Voci di Malcesine. He will be succeeded by another young Trentino musician, Mirko Vezzani, whose background and experience inspire optimism for the future of the Malcesine choir.
