Malcesine Hosts Olympic Sailing Teams Training Camp Before Sydney

Malcesine like Sydney. From July 3 to August 15, the nautical base of the Fraglia vela Malcesine will host the training camp for the Italian teams participating in the Olympic Games in September.

“It is a great honor to undertake this important task,” declares Gianni Testa, president of the Fraglia. “The federal coaches have organized here the final preparatory phase before the Olympics because our race course has very similar characteristics to the one in Sydney. The choice of the Fiv was also motivated by the logistical guarantees our club offers.

In just over two months, we organized the International Meeting of the Third Millennium 4.20, the Garda See Cup Marblehead Trophy (Dragons), the European Championship 4.70, the National Open Surprise Championship, followed by the International Tempest Regatta, the Italian Open First 8 Championship, the Velaevento European Circuit Stage (Libera), the International H-Boote Championship, the European Joker Championship, the Simone Lombardi Trophy (Optimist), the European Grand Prix Beneteau 25, the International Finn Cup, and the Best Wind Trophy.

The Qualified Teams

For two months, under the shade of the Malcesine Scaliger Castle, teams will train, including three teams from Verona that have qualified for the Games. These are Federica Salvà (Cn Brenzone) and Emanuela Sossi, who compete in the 4.70 class, Luca Devoti (Yc Italiano), who races in the Finn, as well as Nicola Celon, Daniele De Luca, and Michele Paoletti (Yc Torri), who will represent Italy in the Soling class in Sydney.

Also from Verona is Albino Fravezzi, the federal coach for the Finn and Star classes.
