Malcesine-Monte Baldo Cable Car to Launch in 2002 with Panoramic Views

A previously unseen Garda Lake view, thanks to a mode of transportation currently unique in Europe. It is the new cable car that will ascend to Monte Baldo in the province of Verona. It is scheduled to begin operation in 2002.

Rotating panoramic cabins on their own axis to display the scenery to eighty people at a time, marking the new Malcesine – Monte Baldo cable car section second part, which will replace the current system.

The new structure was introduced by the presidents of the Province of Verona, the Chamber of Commerce of Schio, and the management company, which, together with the Municipality of Malcesine, form the «Malcesine Funicular Transport Company» Consortium.

Technical features and costs

The construction — covering 1,700 meters of elevation change over two sections — will cost approximately 36 billion lire, funded by the management company with a loan of 25 billion lire.

The work, which also includes accessibility improvements, is scheduled to start by September of this year.

The cable car will have an hourly capacity of 600 people, a throughput likely to triple the current traffic of around two hundred thousand travelers per year.
