Malcesine-Monte Baldo Cable Car with Rotating Cabins to Launch in 2002
Rotating panoramic cabins on their own axis to showcase the breathtaking view of the lake, accommodating 80 people at a time. These will be part of the second section of the new Malcesine-Monte Baldo cable car, which in June 2002 will replace the current system. The announcement of the new structure’s construction was made jointly by the presidents of the Provincia di Verona, Aleardo Merlin, the Camera di Commercio scaligera, Massimo Ferro, and the management company Giuseppe Venturini, who, together with the Comune di Malcesine, form the consortium “Azienda trasporti funicolari Malcesine.”
Details on the construction and management of the cable car
The construction of the project — 1,700 meters of elevation change to be traversed in two sections of 1,500 and 2,800 meters in length — has been entrusted to Hoelzl of Lana (Bolzano) with an estimated cost of just under 36 billion lire, which the managing company will cover with a loan of 25 billion lire granted by Opi spa of the San Paolo-Imi group in Rome. Work is scheduled to begin by September of this year.
The cable car will have an hourly capacity of 600 people, a figure expected to triple the current traffic of 200,000 travelers annually.
