Manerba Hosts Mountain Bike Orienteering Event on April 8
“Discover Manerba by Mountain Bike” is the live motivation that will accompany the inaugural event, a promotional activity open to everyone, technically defined as “MTB-0 orienteering”.
Event Details
The appointment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. next Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the sports field in the locality of “Rolli”, where at 10:00 a.m. the first of the departures for the three planned routes will take place: short km 8, technically simple, mostly on paved roads or easy-to-ride paths; medium km 12, for those approaching orienteering but already familiar with mountain biking; long km 16, for those who are trained and believe they can navigate…
“For the ‘short’ and ‘medium’ routes – recall the organizers, the Pro Loco in collaboration with the local Sport Group – participation in ‘groups’ (maximum of 3 people) is permitted. Minors must have parental authorization. The use of a protective helmet is mandatory.”
Discipline and Rules of the Race
What does this particular type of race consist of? The organizers clarify: “Mountain Bike Orienteering is a timed competition. It is practiced on bicycles and mainly takes place on dirt roads, trails, and white roads. Leaving the designated paths and crossing private property is not allowed.”
Using a special topographic map provided at the start, participants must pass through control points marked on the map in the shortest possible time. The passage is recorded on a testimony card. In this sport, victory goes not to the person with the most muscles but to the one who can orient themselves more quickly and make the best route choices.
However, even those without ambitions of winning can enjoy themselves and stay active in contact with nature through this sporting discipline.
Registrations and Prizes
For those wishing to participate, we remind you that the registration fee is 6,000 lire, and registrations are accepted, subject to the availability of maps, until 9:30 a.m. on the day of the race at the meeting point. At the end of the event, pasta, water, and spit-roast with polenta will be distributed.
Finally, prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and via raffle. Those who do not have a mountain bike and helmets will be able to rent them by calling “Cicli Mata” 0365/41492 by Saturday, April 7.
