Manerba Revives Its Carnival with New Collaborations and Culinary Highlights
The nativity scenes have been stored in the cellar, and some are already thinking about the carnival: this is happening in Manerba, which for some years has been the seat of the Carnival of the Re del Maöl. The event has returned after a long period of absence and was immediately met with great public success.
This success has prompted the organizers of the Pro loco to plan an even more ambitious edition for 2001, none other than with the blessing of Italy’s most important carnival: the Viareggio Carnival.
Indeed, the miss and the official mask of the Tuscan event will officially open, on February 17, the Carnival 2001 of Maöl.
News and participation of the municipalities
This is not the only novelty: for the first time since its return, Manerba officially becomes the Valtenesi Carnival.
All seven municipalities in the region will participate with their own floats, almost prefiguring that Palio delle Botti which in August depicts the rivalry among the seven castles of Valtenesi.
This is a sort of homage to the renewed atmosphere of understanding and collaboration that in recent times has seemed to characterize relationships between the Municipal Administrations in the area.
Initiatives and presentations
It will also be during the Manerba carnival that the seven mayors will be the protagonists of a convention during which, in addition to presenting joint projects, they will most likely announce the formation of a consortial organization that should replace the Association of Municipalities.
Another innovation is a renewed, strong bond between the event and the local agro-food products: the King of Carnival will no longer be just King of Maöl (namely of the Groppello grape), but also of “pestöm” and “chisöl,” respectively a pork mixture used in salami and a typical agricultural dessert from the Brescia area.
These products, in addition to other jewels of the Valtenesi basket, will be offered for tasting and displayed throughout the event, which as mentioned will open on the evening of Saturday the 17th (adding another novelty) with a large festival in the center of Manerba, featuring a nightclub for young people, live music, and street performances.
Program and final events of the carnival
All of this will precede the first of two parades of allegorical floats, scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday the 18th, along with numerous entertainment and street animation activities.
The Carnival of the Children will also take place, set for the afternoon of the 24th. On Sunday the 25th, the grand finale will include the last parade, the awards ceremony in piazza, and finally, at the palasport, a large evening banquet with music, games, and entertainment.
