Maratona Garden to Reopen as Play Zone, Not Asphalt

No worries: the Maratona garden will return to being a play and walking zone for children. As early as next week. Recently, a false rumor had spread, claiming that the garden would be transformed into… asphalt.

Yesterday morning, however, Assessor Tommaso Giardino (ironically sharing his name…), in the presence of Mayor Cino Anelli and Chief Technical Officer Lorenzo Peretti, dispelled these doubts. “The Maratona garden had been in poor condition for some time, full of potholes and unfortunately dog droppings: the turf, due to children’s activities, needed to be redone too often, incurring significant expenses.

So — Giardino explained — we asked ourselves whether it might be better to lay an artificial surface. We decided to overlay a colored rubber paving of a few centimeters thickness. Children will not be at risk in case of falls, and dogs will no longer be able to access it: we believe we have achieved two reasonable goals.”

Interventions and future projects

The green area, but it would be better to now call it the “rubber area,” covers about 400 square meters and is located right in the center of the Maratona, between the docks of the same name and the parking lot. It has always been frequented by parents and their children due to its central location.

With the rubber foundation, it should regain its popularity among children after a period of neglect. The assessor also took the opportunity to announce the feasibility of the project to build the roundabout in front of the A4 motorway toll booth at San Martino-Sirmione.

The projected cost exceeds 600 million euros, with the project and tender procedures managed by the Provincia, which, together with the Comune and the Società Autostrada Brescia-Verona-Padova, has financed the work. Work is scheduled to start next autumn.

The new roundabout is an essential project to improve traffic flow in the area and enhance safety conditions.

Theft and misinformation

A final note of a very different nature. After false obituaries, the prankster struck again yesterday. A completely fake flyer was circulated, announcing the possibility for residents to “retrieve a free monthly parking meter voucher.”

This time, Mayor Anelli did not take the hoax lightly. He instructed legal action to be taken and a report to be filed against unknown individuals. The anonymous author is clearly focusing on the story of the lakeside promenade and the elimination of free parking spaces.
