Maurizio Doro’s 1,800 km Alaska Bike Challenge for “L’Iditasport Impossible”

He will pedal for 1,800 kilometers through the snows of Alaska, amidst snowstorms and wind, with temperatures around 40 degrees below zero. This is the new challenge for Maurizio Doro, the sportsman from Arco in the extreme, who, along with his trusted mountain bike, will depart Sunday morning heading to Anchorage, where, seven days later, his latest impossible mission will begin: “L’Iditasport Impossible,” the prestigious one-stage MTB race, self-sufficient, lasting up to 40 days.

“But I plan to complete it in just twenty days,” comments Doro himself, “riding for 30-35 hours straight at times.” Among the sponsors of the initiative, besides the athlete’s personal sponsors, there are also the Comune di Arco and the SAT arcense.

It was at the SAT premises that, last Tuesday, the presentation press conference took place in the presence of SAT president Giancarlo Emanuelli, the sports councilor Fabrizio Miori, and two of his sponsors: GM abbigliamento di Trento and Carpentari di Torbole.

Details on bicycle design

“We decided to support Maurizio Doro in this endeavor,” commented councilor Fabrizio Miori, “because we believe in the way he approaches these feats and in the values he conveys—such as his ‘non-star’ attitude and his constant search for contact with the environment, people, and their ways of living.”

The Carpentari model bicycle that Doro will use during his crossing of the ice was specially designed and built to withstand both the specific stresses of the expedition and the polar cold that will grip both rider and vehicle alike.
