Mayor Sigurtà Rejects Control Commission for Five Continents Neighborhood
“I do not believe it is necessary to establish a control commission for the Five Continents neighborhood, since the authorities responsible for inspections are already in place and are working,”
Mayor Arturo Sigurtà responds negatively to the repeated demands made by the Lega Nord of Castiglione and chooses a different approach.
Sigurtà also assures that he, along with the municipal police, has carried out inspections inside the neighborhood during evening hours, where a fight among foreigners occurred just last night.
Authorities’ interventions in the neighborhood
Recently, both the ASL and the fire brigade have taken an interest in the Cinque Continenti issue, requesting inspections to verify both the structural safety of the buildings and their hygienic-sanitary conditions.
Regarding the commission, the mayor sees no need for it at all: “I believe that the bodies already in place can operate: the condominium assembly, the neighborhood committee, the Municipality, the municipal police, the carabinieri, the ASL, and the fire brigade. The Municipality is currently assessing the situation and carrying out a series of interventions. Therefore, I see no necessity to establish a commission for this neighborhood; the authorities are already there, and their work is sufficient.”
Ongoing control activities and checks
The efforts that the mayor mentioned are underway at all levels, both municipal and provincial: “The municipal police, which sometimes has accompanied me to the neighborhood in the evening, often conducts checks, as do the carabinieri, who verify the presence of illegal activities, such as drug trafficking.”
Furthermore, we are involving other organizations responsible for different types of inspections. We have invited the ASL to carry out checks regarding the hygienic-sanitary requirements of the premises.
As if that were not enough, we also called in the fire brigade, asking them to verify the structural safety of the buildings. Therefore, I believe our attention to this situation is truly significant.”
