The debate over funding for the Garda wastewater treatment plant is intensifying following significant discrepancies regarding ministerial funds. Of the 100 million euros initially announced, only 52 million have actually been allocated, with a distribution of 30 million earmarked for the Brescia shore and 22 million for the Verona shore. The first tranche, announced in 2016, had instead allocated 60 million for the Brescia shore and 40 million for the Verona shore. The Minister of the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, had recently promised additional funds, but the current situation has sparked strong reactions among local mayors.
To address the issue, a meeting has been scheduled for next Monday involving local mayors and Deputy Minister Vannia Gava. The mayor of Bardolino, Daniele Bertasi, has expressed concern over the absence of the remaining 50 million and has requested clarification on the actual availability of the funds. The situation has become urgent as costs continue to rise, and there is uncertainty about how to proceed without adequate financial coverage. Angelo Cresco, president of Azienda Gardesana Servizi, emphasized the importance of understanding whether the current funds represent just an initial tranche or the total amount available.
