A 72-year-old German tourist, Dieter Niessner, has been missing for over 48 hours while on vacation in Costermano, raising growing concern among authorities and his family. The last sighting was on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17, when he was seen walking in the historic center of Sirmione. Since then, he has not returned to his accommodation nor contacted his loved ones. His granddaughter raised the alarm via social media, emphasizing that her grandfather suffers from early-stage dementia, which may have affected his ability to navigate.
Search efforts have been initiated by law enforcement in an area that includes Sirmione and Lazise, involving Carabinieri, canine units, and volunteers from Civil Protection. To aid in potential sightings, a description of Mr. Niessner has been circulated: he is approximately 1.60 meters tall, wearing a beige and brown cap with a visor, gray-black shorts, a brown polo shirt, and hiking shoes. Authorities urge anyone with useful information or who spots him to immediately contact emergency number 112.
