Moniga del Garda Honors Resistance and Liberation with Commemorative Evening

Moniga del Garda will host a commemorative event on April 24th to mark the 81st anniversary of Liberation, with a focus on the Italian Social Republic (RSI) and local resistance history. The event, open to the public and scheduled at 8:30 PM in the town hall, features Professor Bruno Festa, a researcher specializing in the period, who will present historical images and documents related to key RSI ministries and events in the Garda and Brescia areas.

The presentation will include visual comparisons of current locations with historical records, such as dispatches from the Stefani agency and photos from the U.S. National Archives. Festa will also discuss notable episodes of resistance in the Alto Garda region and highlight the role of Allied forces, including the “Monuments Men” involved in safeguarding European cultural heritage during WWII. The evening aims to deepen understanding of the period’s complexities and the lasting impact of wartime events.
